AFN kickstarts season with Nkoyo Ibori Youth Classics in Oghara

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has scheduled this year's edition of the Nkoyo Ibori Under-18 Athletics Meet for March 4-6,2010 at the Oghara Township Stadium, Oghara, Delta State.

A statement by the Secretary General of the Federation, Maria Worphill, stated that this year's edition will also serve as the selection trials for the Nigerian team that will participate at the Africa Region II Youth Olympics Trials scheduled for May 14-16, 2010 in Dakar, Senegal.

The list of events to be competed for includes the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 100m/110m Hurdles, 400m Hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Discus, Javelin, Shot Put, 4x100m and 4x400m relays for boys and girls.

The athletes are expected to arrive on Wednesday March 3 and departs on Sunday March 7, 2010.

Eligibility

According to the Federation, only athletes between 16 and 17 years old who must not be 18 years, as at December 31, 2010 are qualified to participate.

"All entries must reach the AFN via e-mail: ngr@mf.iaaf.org, not later that midnight of February 21, 2010.

"There shall be subsidy of N7, 500 for five athletes from each participating state."

In a letter to all the state track & field associations, the AFN warned that there shall be doping control at this championships, saying any athlete caught in violation of the rule would be sanctioned.
