South Africa double-amputee athlete, Oscar Pistorius - the'Blade Runner', has again run inside the 400 metres qualifying 'A' standard time for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Pistorius clocked 45.20 on his carbon fibre blades at a meet in South Africa on Saturday, bettering for a second time the mark of 45.30 laid down by the IAAF for able-bodied athletes. Pistorius ran 45.07 in a race in Italy last year.
It doesn't strictly qualify Pistorius for the games after South Africa's Olympic committee said it wanted its athletes to meet the qualifying criteria in the three months leading up to this year's Olympics, which start July 27.
However, it is a major boost for Pistorius's bid to make history as the first amputee athlete to run at the Olympics and could be considered good enough by South Africa's Olympic body.
"I am absolutely thrilled to have run the Olympic qualification time today," Pistorius said.
