The 22-year-old Ethiopian edged out Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen to retain the world indoor 1500m title at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade.
The 25-year-old eclipsed the championship record of 3:59.75, held by compatriot Gelete Burka, to lead an Ethiopian clean sweep of the women’s 1500m, crossing the line in 3:57.19.
