By Yomi Omogbeja, 29 January, 2009

The Local Organising Committee (LOC )of the Glo-Lagos International Half Marathon has announced that deadline for registration to participate in the second edition of the event  has been extended till February 3rd 2009.

Globacom Limited, title sponsors and the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, organisers of the race, in a joint statement, said that the extension is to give opportunity to as many Nigerians as possible to register for the Half Marathon and to allow for runners outside Lagos to send in their registration forms.

A statement from the LOC disclosed that registration forms for participation in the Marathon may be obtained from over 40 Gloworld shops across the country and Sport Council offices in every state of the federation. Intending participants may also register on-line at www.glolagosmarathon.com/registration.php.

According to the LOC, all forms must be returned through the same collection routes latest February 7, 2009.

The 2nd Glo-Lagos International Half Marathon comes up on February 21 2008 and is a 21.098km race. Cash prizes totaling over N35 million are up for grabs in the half marathon with the winners (male & female) getting $50,000 each.

The introduction of second level prizes for the first six Nigerian finishers in the race has raised excitement among local runners and increased the demand for registration materials. Globacom is offering a brand new Kia Picanto car for the first Nigerian male and female winners.

The second set of Nigerians to finish the race in the male and female categories will get N1,000,000 each. Globacom will also cap the special provision for the Nigerian runners with N750,000 each for the third Nigerians in the male & female categories to finish the race.
