Oke targets Agbebaku's record in Sheffield

By Yomi Omogbeja, 13 February, 2010

Nigeria's Tosin Oke will continue his preparations for the 13th IAAF World Indoor championships tomorrow at the Aviva UK World Trials and Indoor Championships at the English Institute of Sports (EIS) in Sheffield.

The Nigerian Triple Jumper has his sight firmly set on breaking Ajayi Agbebaku's 17.00m Indoor African record set in Dallas, United States on February 30, 1982.

In a chat with AthleticsAfrica.Com on his way to his hotel in Sheffield today, Tosin said he hope to give it a go.

Last month at the Aviva International Match in Glasgow, representing the Commonwealth, Oke confirmed his recent fine form as he took triple jump victory in an indoor personal best of 16.73m, which ranks him equal fourth on the current world rankings.

Block slip

Unfortunately, Nigeria's Akeem Ogunyemi slipped out of his starting block, fell and could only walked to the finish line in the men's 60m finals held this evening.

The race was won by Dwain Chambers (Belgrave Harriers) ran the fastest time in the world this year in winning the men's 60m title in 6.50secs.

In second place and running the best 60m race of his life was Harry Aikines-Aryeetey (Sutton) with a superb improvement on his own personal best running 6.55secs ahead of third placed Craig Pickering (Marshall Milton Keynes) with 6.66secs.

Earlier in the semi-final, Ogunyemi posted a 6.73secs for a tied finish with Great Britain Mark Lewis-Francis to qualify for the finals.
