The Nigerian contingent to the 2010 IAAF World Junior Championships scheduled for Moncton, Canada are scheduled to depart for the championships next week.

Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Technical Director, Sunday Bada, in an interview with the Athletics Africa stated that the athletes should be able to acclimatize to the weather conditions in Canada considering the fact that the championship commences July 19 and ends July 25 if they leave four days to the tournament.

Bada said: "We want to make sure they get to Canada at least 3 days to the championship so that they will not be tired from the rigors of traveling a long distance."

He also shed more light on why no javelin thrower was picked to represent the country at the championship. According to Bada, this was due to the fact that no athlete in the event met the AFN's standard.

One of such athlete, Igwebuike Akachikwu had placed sixth at the just concluded Mobil Track and Field Championship held few weeks back in Calabar. Akachikwu also won a Gold medal earlier in the year at the World Youth Olympic Qualification CAA Region 2 meet.
