Nigeria selects 18 athletes for World Juniors in Moncton, Canada

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) yesterday named 18 athletes for the 2010 IAAF World Junior Championships scheduled for Moncton, Canada from July 19-25, 2010.

Josephine Omaka, who won the 100 metres at the 2009 National Sports Festival, leads the girls' sprints team of Stella Silas, Abibat Yusuf and Bunmi Jethro.

The boys' sprints team comprises Nmajuokuedo Jonathan and Oyebiyi Ayobami while Tobi Ogunmola and Njotey Peter are to join them in the 4x100m relay.

Margaret Etim, the 2010 Mobil championships 400m silver medallist, will also represent Nigeria in the 200m, 400m and 4x400m.

She will lead the female 4x400m relay team made up of Mobil championships' bronze medallist Bukola Abogunloko, Okodogbe Chizoba, Nkiruka Uwakwe and Charity Adegoke.

Ishaku Mohammed (800m), Ifeanyi Augustine (shot put) and Oladimeji Toyin (long jump) are also representing the country in the boys' category.

The duo of Japhet Samuel and Isah Salisu will feature in the boys' 400m, with Tobi Ogunmola and Njotey Peter joining them for the 4x400m relay.
